The Undressed Syllable
Rachel Eliza Griffiths is a poet and visual artist. Her fourth collection of poetry, Lighting the Shadow (Four Way Books), was published in 2015. She has received fellowships including Yaddo, Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, Vermont Studio Center, and Cave Canem Foundation. Her video project, P.O.P (Poets on Poetry), a series of intimate video interviews with over 100 contemporary poets, is featured online at the Academy of American Poets. Her literary and visual works have appeared widely including New York Times, Poets & Writers, American Poetry Review, Callaloo, Guernica, Lit Hub, Transition, and many others. Currently, Griffiths teaches creative writing at the Institute of American Indian Arts and Sarah Lawrence College.
Griffiths’ video, The Undressed Syllable, is the first installation of a trilogy of ekphrastic videos she created for Audre Lorde’s poem, “The Black Unicorn.”
